Chloe Humphrey, a freshman from the University of North Carolina, has been named the Honda Sport Award winner for Lacrosse, as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 49 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, signifying “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.” The recipient of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2025 Honda Cup, which will be presented during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 30, at 7 pm ET, in New York City.
Humphrey was selected via a nationwide vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. The other finalists for this year’s award were Rachel Clark (Boston College), Shea Dolce (Boston College) and Madison Taylor (Northwestern).
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me for the Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse,” said Humphrey. “I am forever indebted to my parents who tirelessly supported my passion, my sisters who taught me the tricks of the trade, my coaches over the years who have refined my game and the best teammates a person could ask for. I’m living a dream right now and I don’t want to wake up. I am so incredibly grateful for all of you. I would also like to thank the Honda Award committee for recognizing me. It is a tremendous honor.”
Humphrey delivered one of the most dominant debut seasons in collegiate women’s lacrosse history, culminating in being named the 2025 Tewaaraton Award winner and the first freshman ever to earn the sport’s highest honor. A native of Darien, Conn., Humphrey also garnered 2025 IWLCA Player of the Year and Attacker of the Year honors, was selected as an IWLCA First Team All-American, and earned spots on both the ACC All-First Team and USA Lacrosse First Team All-America. She was named Most Valuable Player of both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, helping lead the Tar Heels to their fourth NCAA Championship title.
Humphrey shattered the NCAA freshman record and UNC single season record with 90 goals, adding 28 assists for a total of 118 points. Her 90 goals ranked third nationally, while her total points placed fifth, and she averaged 4.09 goals per game, good for seventh in the country. She tallied a hat trick in 18 of 22 games, and played a key role in helping UNC lead the nation in points per game (26.68) and scoring offense (17.45 goals per game).
During the ACC Championship run, she posted 10 goals and six assists, totaling 23 points en route to earning MVP honors. She also received Nike Lacrosse Media First Team All-America recognition for her outstanding freshman campaign.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Chloe and all she’s accomplished this season,” said head coach Jenny Levy. “She’s an incredibly hard worker, an excellent teammate, and a real competitor. Chloe plays the game with so much joy and you can see that her energy is infectious. She was pivotal to our team’s success this season and is being deservedly recognized for those contributions with one of, if not, the most prestigious awards in college sports.”
The CWSA, now in its 49th year, continues to honor the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their exceptional athletic achievements, leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to community service. Since the inception of its partnership in 1986, Honda has contributed over $3.4 million in institutional grants to support women’s athletics programs at the universities of award winners and nominees.
