Taylor Cummings of the University of Maryland, University of Florida's Shannon Gilroy and teammates Alyssa Murray and Kayla Treanor from Syracuse University are the four nominees for the Honda Sports Award for women's lacrosse as announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) today.

The Honda Sports Award is presented annually by the CWSA to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”. The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2014 Honda Cup. The nominees were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

The Honda Sports award winner for lacrosse will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Cummings is a 2014 Tewaaraton finalist and a two-time IWLCA first-team All-American. The sophomore from Ellicott City, Md., helped Maryland earn a national championship and led the Terrapins in goals scored (63), draw controls (128), ground balls (37) and caused turnovers (30).

A native of Northport, N.Y., Gilroy was named the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Midfielder of the Year and the ALC Tournament MVP after leading the Gators to the regular season and conference title. A Tewaaraton finalist, the junior leads the nation in goals scored (86) and leads her squad in goals, points (106), draw controls (82) and caused turnovers (24).

Murray, a Tewaaraton finalist, is a three-time IWLCA first-team All-American from West Babylon, N.Y.. The senior closes her career ranked second on Syraucse's all-time scoring list and is the second player in school history to record 300 points, 200 goals and 100 assists in her career.

Treanor is a two-time IWLCA first-team All-American and led the nation in points scored with 117 on the year while ranking second in goals (79). A native of Niskayuna, N.Y., the sophomore is a Tewaaraton finalist and her points total are the highest for a sophomore in program history.

The CWSA presents the Honda Sports Award annually to top women student-athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. Honda Sports award winners will be presented with the honor during on-campus presentations throughout the year and all Honda Sports award winners become a finalist for the prestigious 2014 Honda Cup award presented in June.

THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 37 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $2.8 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs at the institutions.
