Kole Pollock, a junior from Adelphi University, was named the DII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for lacrosse as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Pollock is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 43rd year.
“To even be considered for the Honda Athlete of the Year award is such an honor, “ said Pollock. “But all of the success that I’ve experienced throughout the course of this season, and in my overall career at Adelphi, would not be possible without the consistent support of my coaches and training staff, teammates, and family. The time and effort that these people have devoted to our program has ensured that we reach our maximum potential, and even beyond that. These are some of the most important people in my life – making it that much easier for me to do everything in my power to make them proud, and to be the best person and athlete that I can possibly be.”
Pollock led her team to the 2019 NCAA Championship and was named the NCAA Most Outstanding Player and earned All-Tournament honors. She scored 18 goals through the four games of the NCAA tournament, while adding one assist to finish with 19 points and lead all scorers in the tournament.
On the season, she led the team with 81 goals, which ranked in the top 10 in NCAA DII, after setting a single-season school record with 85 goals last year. She added 13 assists to finish the year with 94 points. She posted a season-high eight goals versus Pace and had 16 hat tricks in 22 games overall. Her biggest goal of the year might have been the double-overtime game-winner versus Le Moyne to send the team to the Final Four en route to its ninth national title.
“Kole has been an impact player for our program since she arrived on campus as a freshman,” stated head coach Pat McCabe. “She has expanded her role each year and continues to improve. Even though she often deals with being the focal point of opposing defenses, Kole always finds a way to make the big play when her team needs it most. She is more than just a scorer though. Being a key person on the draw circle and her relentless pursuit on the ride show what a complete player she is and the many ways Kole contributes to our success.”
All Honda Sports nominees from DII and DIII become a finalist for the prestigious 2019 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports on June 24, 2019, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Sports nominees are recognized in 11 DII and DIII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 43 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.
