Trinity Thomas, a graduate student from the University of Florida, was named the Honda Sport Award winner for Gymnastics for the second straight season as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”. The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network in June.
Thomas was chosen by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Haleigh Bryant (LSU), Jade Carey (Oregon State) and Raena Worley (Kentucky).
“So honored to receive the Honda Award again this season,” said Thomas. “It feels incredible to have achieved one of my biggest collegiate goals back-to-back. Attending the College Women Sports Awards event last summer in Los Angeles is certainly one of my favorite collegiate memories. I am looking forward to attending the ceremony to represent myself, my family and the University of Florida again in 2023.”
Thomas was the Class of 2022 Honda Award winner for Gymnastics and was a Top Three honoree. A graduate student from York, Pa., Thomas has earned 28 First Team All-America honors in her career and is the only gymnast in NCAA history with at least five 10.0s on each apparatus for five career Gym Slams. This season, she tied the NCAA career record (28) for perfect marks after scoring a 10 during the NCAA Championship final vault competition.
She is only the second three-time SEC Gymnast of the Year in the history of the award and is a four-time All-SEC honoree. At the 2023 SEC Championship, she became only the second performer in meet history to earn two 10.0 in a single meet.
Thomas is Florida’s career all-around leader (30) and career leader with 142 events. This season, she led Florida with 29 event wins and won every floor competition she finished (9).

The CWSA, entering its 47th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.
