Bio
The 1983 winner of what was then the Broderick Cup is Hawai‘i volleyball legend Deitre Collins, the first volleyball student-athlete to earn this prestigious collegiate honor. Playing middle blocker, Deitre led the Rainbow Wahine to back-to-back NCAA team titles in 1982 and 1983 and twice captured the Honda Sport Award as national player of the year. Deitre went on to represent the United States on the 1988 Olympic Team in Seoul, South Korea, before embarking on a coaching career that included a decade as head coach at San Diego State and stints at Arizona, Cornell, UNLV and in the Pro Volleyball Federation.
