Sydney Moss, a senior guard from the Thomas More College women’s basketball team, was named the 2016 Honda DIII Athlete of the Year as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
The CWSA is celebrating 40 years of “the best of the best in collegiate athletics” and Moss will be presented with this honor on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 27, 2016, (6 pm PT /9 pm EST) in the Founders’ Room at the Galen Center on the campus of the University of Southern California in downtown Los, Angeles.
The honor was voted on by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 40th year.
“Receiving this award means so much and I'm so honored to have been selected as the Honda Division III Athlete of the Year, “ said Moss. “First I want to thank God for blessing me with this amazing opportunity. I want to thank the CWSA presented by Honda for this amazing award and what they have and are doing for collegiate women in sports. I want to thank Tomas More College along with my coaches and teammates for the constant support throughout these past few years.”
A native of St. Albans, W.Va., this marks the third straight season Moss has been the unanimous National Player of the Year as she earned the honor three times from the WBCA, D3hoops.com and DIII News. All three outlets recognized Moss with first-team All-America honors for the past three seasons as well. Moss led her team to back-to-back national championships with back-to-back perfect seasons. She has been the representative for basketball for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year for the past two seasons before winning the honor this year.
The senior averaged 22.1 points per game, shot 49.9 percent from the field, including 37.9 percent from behind the three-point arc. She also led the team on the boards with 7.4 rebounds per game, while she is second in assists with 156 and has blocked 18 shots and recorded 48 steals.

She was chosen from a great group of student-athletes, and this is a testament to the young lady Sydney has become and the way she represented Thomas More College in all aspects of her college experience.”
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 40 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.0 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs at the institutions.
