Charlotte North of Boston College Named Honda Sport Award Winner for Lacrosse

Charlotte North, a senior attack from Boston College, was named the Honda Sport Award winner for Lacrosse as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 45 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2021 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 28th at 9 pm ET.

North was chosen by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Lizzie Colson (Maryland), Ally Kennedy (Stony Brook) and Taylor Moreno (North Carolina).

“I am so humbled and honored to win this award with so many great athletes in the sport right now,” said North. “This is an award I share with my teammates and coaches because I wouldn’t be in this position without them. I am so grateful to be a part of the BC family.”

A senior from Dallas, Texas, North was recently named the 2021 Tewaaraton Award winner as well as the IWLCA Player of the Year after leading her team to its first-ever NCAA Championship title. She set a new NCAA DI record in women’s and men’s lacrosse with 102 goals this year and added 12 assists for 114 points, which ranked second in the nation. As the 2021 NCAA Tournament MVP, she also set an NCAA tournament record for most goals in a tournament with 31 in 2021.

This season she posted the second-most draw controls in a single season at BC (174) while ranking third in the nation in draws (174) and was the only DI player to rank in the top 10 in both goals and draws per game.

Off the field, she was recently announced at the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

“I am so excited for Charlotte, her family and her teammates,” said head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein. “She has helped bring BC to new heights this year and has exceeded all of our expectations for her. She is a leader of our program and inspires all of us, from the coaching staff to her teammates to all the girls dreaming of playing college lacrosse. And even as great of a player she is, she’s an even better teammate, student and friend.”

The CWSA, celebrating its 45th anniversary year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
