Jocelyn Alo, a redshirt senior utility player from the University of Oklahoma, was named the Honda Sport Award winner for Softball as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 46 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2022 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 27th at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT

Alo was chosen by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Georgina Corrick (South Florida), Danielle Gibson (Arkansas) and Baylee Klingler (Washington).

Alo, hailing from Hauula, Hawaii, was named the back-to-back USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and is a four-time NFCA All-American after garnering her third nod to the First Team this season. The utility player led her Sooners to their sixth national championship in record setting fashion. She hit two of the record setting six home runs in game one and helped her team to 64 runs setting a new mark for runs scored in the WCWS.

The two-time Big 12 Player of the Year is also the all-time NCAA leader in career homers (122), total bases (743) and slugging pct. (.926) and became the first player in history to hit 30 home runs and bat .500 in the same season, finishing with a .515 average.

As a team, the Sooners held the No. 1 ranking in 10 major categories this season and Alo individually ranked first in slugging pct. (1.212), on base percentage (.646) and home runs (34). For her career, Alo holds seven offensive records at Oklahoma and ranks second in two other.

The CWSA, entering its 46th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
