Alison Takamiya, a senior from George Fox University, was named the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for Golf as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

Takamiya is designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 48th year.

“To end my undergraduate career in this way is something I never imagined would happen,” said Takamiya. “I cannot thank George Fox Women’s Golf enough for the endless opportunities that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life, as well as the CWSA  and Honda for this nomination. I am so extremely grateful for these past four years, and for a program that teaches you how to believe in others and believe in yourself on and off the golf course.”

Most recently, Takamiya was named the PING Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) DIII National Player of the Year after earning Northwest Conference (NWC) Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row. The senior is a four-time WGCA First Team All-American and a four-time First Team All-NWC performer.

Hailing from Honolulu, Hawai'i, she captured the 2024 DIII NCAA individual national championship en route to helping her team to an NCAA record-setting round of 287 (-1) during the DIII National Championship for the lowest-ever team score. Earlier in the season, she was the 2024 NWC individual champion capturing six tournament wins in 2023-24.

Overall, she finished the year ranked No. 1 in the NCAA official rankings and finished in the top-five in all but one event. Takamiya has 13 career tournament wins and is a six-time NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honoree.

Off the course, she was named a two-time NWC Scholar-Athlete and a WGCA All-American Scholar.

All Honda Sport Award finalists from DIII and DII will vie for the prestigious 2024 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.

The Honda Award finalists are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.

The CWSA, entering its 48th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
