Finalists for the Class of 2024 Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse Announced

Chase Boyle from Loyola University, Northwestern University teammates Izzy Scane and Madison Taylor and Jackie Wolak from the University of Notre Dame are the four finalists for the Class of 2024 Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse as announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) today.

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 48 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup, which will be presented during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.

The lacrosse finalists were selected by a panel of coaches and experts from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Honda Sport award winner for lacrosse will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Boyle, a junior hailing from Rumson, N.J., was recently named the IWLCA Midfielder of the Year and a 2024 IWLC First Team All-American. A Tewaaraton Award finalist, she finished the season second in the nation in goals scored with 85 and set a new program record for goals in a season. She was also named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-Patriot League after leading her team to its eighth Patriot League Championship.

Scane, a graduate student, was the Class of 2023 Honda Award winner for Lacrosse and most recently was named the Tewaaraton Award winner for the second season in a row. The attack player from Clarkston, Mich., set a new NCAA DI record in career goals finishing with 376 establishing a new school record as well. She led the nation in scoring with 88 goals on the season and is a two-time IWLCA Player of the Year and Attacker of the Year.

Taylor was an IWLCA First Team All-American and Tewaaraton Award finalist and finished the season third nationally in scoring with 83 goals at the attack position. A sophomore from Wantagh, N.Y., she has 136 career goals which are the most by any Wildcat in their first two seasons. Her 116 points, which included 33 assists on the year, also ranked third nationally. She also ranked second on the team with 74 draw controls.

Wolak, a graduate student, is a two-time IWLCA First Team All-American along with a 2024 Tewaaraton Award finalist. A native of Ridgewood, N.J., she ranked fourth nationally with 110 points and was named the 2024 ACC Attacker of the Year as well as a two-time All-ACC First Team performer. She is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 341 career points and her 110 points in a single season ranks third in program history.

The CWSA, entering its 48th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
