Alexa Noel from the University of Miami (Fla.), NC State University’s Amelia Rajecki, Mary Stoiana from Texas A&M University and the University of Georgia’s Dasha Vidmanova are the four finalists for the Class of 2024 Honda Sport Award for Tennis as announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) today.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 48 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”. The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup, which will be presented during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.
The tennis finalists were selected by final ITA rankings and NCAA competition. The Honda Sport award winner for tennis will be announced after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
Noel, a redshirt junior from Summit, N.J., captured the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship after entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed. She finished the season ranked No. 3 by the ITA, her highest ranking of the season. She is a three-time ITA All-American in singles.
Rajecki ended the year with the program’s highest ITA ranking in history at No. 2. The senior hailing from Nottingham, England, surpassed 100 career wins in singles and doubles to become just the third player to win 100 singles and doubles matches at NC State.
Stoiana, a junior from Southbury, Conn., is a two-time Honda Award finalist for tennis and a two-time SEC Player of the Year- the first player in program history to earn back-to-back honors. She led her team to its first NCAA Championship team title winning at No. 1 singles and doubles and ended the year ranked No. 1 in singles.
Vidmanova captured the 2024 NCAA Doubles Championship (with teammate Aysegul Mert) after defeating the top-seed in the finals. The duo is the Bulldogs’ first NCAA doubles champions. The junior from Prague, Czech Republic, finished the season at a career-best ITA ranking of No. 4 in both singles and doubles.
The CWSA, entering its 48th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
