Finalists for the Class of 2025 Honda Sport Award for Tennis Announced

DJ Bennett from Auburn University, Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M University, University of Tennessee’s Elza Tomase and Dasha Vidmanova from the University of Georgia have been announced as the four finalists for the Class of 2025 Honda Sport Award for Tennis, as revealed today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 49 years, recognizing the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and symbolizing “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.” The recipient of the sport award will become a finalist for the prestigious Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the Class of 2025 Honda Cup, which will be presented during the live broadcast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on June 30, at 7 pm ET, on CBS Sports Network.

The tennis finalists were selected according to final ITA collegiate rankings and NCAA competition. The Honda Sport award winner for tennis will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Bennett, senior from Belleview, Fla., was the 2024-25 NCAA Singles Championship runner-up and NCAA Doubles semifinalist, becoming only the second player in Auburn history to reach the singles final. A 2025 ITA All-American in both singles and doubles, she finished the season ranked No. 3 nationally and is a three-time All-SEC selection.

The Class of 2024 Honda Award winner and three-time finalist, Stoiana is a four-time All-SEC honoree and three-time ITA All-American in singles and doubles. The senior hailing from Southbury, Conn., led Texas A&M to the 2025 SEC team title and NCAA runner-up finish and ends her career as the Aggies’ all-time singles wins leader with 138 victories.

Tomase, a senior from Liepaja, Latvia, finished the season ranked No. 4 nationally and was the No. 4 seed in the 2024-25 NCAA Singles Championship. A two-time First Team All-SEC pick and four-time All-SEC honoree overall, she finished the season with a 26-12 singles record and ranks 10th all-time at Tennessee with 98 career singles wins.

Vidmanova made history as Georgia’s first NCAA Singles Champion and the first Bulldog to win both singles and doubles national titles. A senior hailing from Prague, Czech Republic, she was the 2025 NCAA Tournament MVP, finished the season ranked No. 1 in singles and doubles, and led Georgia to both the NCAA and SEC team titles.

The CWSA, now in its 49th year, celebrates the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their excellence in athletics, leadership, academics, and community service. Since its partnership began in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of award winners and nominees, supporting the growth and success of women’s athletics programs.
