CWSA Announces New Leadership for Board of Directors

Chris Voelz, Executive Director of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda, has announced the updated leadership team for the CWSA Board of Directors. The organization is thrilled to be led by an accomplished group of professionals, including:

  • Patty Viverito, Chair (Commissioner, Missouri Valley Football Conference)
  • Marie Robbins, Treasurer (Senior Associate Athletics Director Emerita, University of Alabama)
  • Dr. Amy Wilson, Member (Managing Director of Inclusion, NCAA)
  • Dr. Christina Munger-Rivera, Member (Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Administrative Officer/SWA, UCLA)
  • Jeanne Lenti Ponsetto, Past Chair (Athletics Director Emerita, DePaul)

Established in 1976, the CWSA recognizes the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their achievements in athletic performance, leadership, academic success, and community service.

“The CWSA has been fortunate to benefit from outstanding leadership for decades. At the forefront of this leadership is the Executive Committee, which represents the entire Board of Directors, manages board business between sessions, and supports the Executive Director and the Strategic Plan. We extend our deepest gratitude to Carolyn Femovich and Jeanne Lenti Ponsetto, who recently concluded their dedicated service on the committee, with Jeanne serving as chair,” stated Voelz.

“We are now successfully positioned for continued excellence with the return of directors in new roles—Patty as Chair, Marie as Treasurer, and Jeanne as Past Chair—and the addition of Amy Wilson and Christina Munger-Rivera. This esteemed group ensures that the Executive Committee remains fully capable of making wise, strategic decisions for the greater good of the CWSA. We are thrilled to have such outstanding institutions and organizations represented within this committee as we move forward.”

Reflecting on her appointment, newly elected Chair Patty Viverito shared, “I was inspired by the passage of Title IX to pursue a career in college sports to promote athletics opportunities for women. Serving as chair of the CWSA Board of Directors is an honor and personal validation of my dream to promote women’s sports opportunities, as this awards program is the pinnacle for recognizing women’s sports achievements.”

Since partnering with the CWSA in 1986, Honda has contributed more than $3.7 million in institutional grants to the universities of award winners and nominees, supporting the continued growth of women’s athletics.
