Alison Takamiya, a graduate student from George Fox University, was named the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for Golf for the second season in a row as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Takamiya is now one of 11 finalists for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year award. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of the CWSA program, now in its 49th year.
“Thank you for recognizing me for this honor,” said Takamiya. “I feel very grateful to be considered. Being part of GFU Women’s Golf is truly a privilege and I will carry everything I’ve learned these last five years with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone who has stayed by my side - I truly wouldn’t be the golfer and person I am without my amazing support system.”
Takamiya, a graduate student hailing from Honolulu, Hawai'i, has been named the PING Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) DIII Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. A program record five-time WGCA First Team All-American, she won five of the 10 events she participated in during the 2024-25 season and finished her George Fox career with a third-place finish at the NCAA Individual Championship after winning the title last season. This was her third podium at nationals in her tenure.
Takamiya became the first Bruin to be named Northwest Conference (NWC) Player of the Year four times, sweeping all three conference events and is a five-time All-NWC First Team honoree.
She finished the season as the top-ranked women’s golfer in DIII and posted a career low scoring average of 71.45.
“Wow, what an awesome honor for Alison, the George Fox Women’s Golf Program, and George Fox University to have Alison named as a finalist for this year’s Honda Division III Athlete of the Year Award,” exclaimed head coach MaryJo McCloskey. “What Alison has done this year in earning National Player of the Year nominations two years in a row is just incredible! The greatest thing about Alison is that she always puts the team first and never plays just for herself. She totally deserves this recognition.”
All Honda Sport Award finalists from DIII and DII will vie for the prestigious 2025 Honda Athlete of the Year award in their respective divisions, presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.
The Honda Award finalists are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
The CWSA, entering its 49th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
