Hope Shue, a senior from Middlebury College, was named the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for Lacrosse for the second season in a row as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Shue is now one of 11 finalists for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year award. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of the CWSA program, now in its 49th year.
“I am incredibly honored to be named a finalist for this award, especially considering all of the talent within Division III women's lacrosse this year,” Shue said. “This is a testament to the exceptional program I have been a part of for the past four years. While it feels surreal that my athletic career at Middlebury is over, I truly could not have asked for more. I am left with nothing but overwhelming gratitude for my teammates, coaches, trainers, and family.”
Shue, a senior from Dover, Mass., has been named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Player and Attacker of the Year for the second consecutive season. A three-time IWLCA First Team All-American and four-time All-American overall, she led Middlebury to its fourth straight NCAA Championship and earned NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors for the third time in her career.
A two-time NESCAC Player of the Year and four-time IWLCA First Team All-Region honoree, Shue was named to the All-NESCAC First Team three times.
She started all 22 games this season, setting program records for both single-season points (119) and goals (86), with the latter milestone achieved in the NCAA Championship game. She also became the program’s all-time leader in career goals (306) and points (391). Shue scored in every game this season, posting 18 multi-goal performances, including seven game-winners, and contributed 72 draw controls, third most on the team.
Off the field, she is a three-time recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award, the first in Middlebury history to do so and only the second women’s lacrosse player across all NCAA divisions to receive the honor three times. Additionally, she was named a CSC Second Team Academic All-American and CSC Academic All-District At-Large honoree along with earning NESCAC All-Academic recognition.
“Hope has been the most decorated and recognized Division III women’s lacrosse player in her four years of competition,” said head coach Kate Livesay ‘03. “She is an electric player to watch compete, as she can take over a game with her dynamic drives to goal and her incredible vision to set up her teammates. She can create opportunities in any phase of the game, whether it is winning a draw control battle or creating a turnover in transition. The consistency of her play and impact can only be attributed to an enormous amount of hard work and investment in her sport. Shue has truly set a new standard of excellence for the Middlebury women’s lacrosse program.”
All Honda Sport Award finalists from DIII and DII will vie for the prestigious 2025 Honda Athlete of the Year award in their respective divisions, presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.
The Honda Award finalists are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
The CWSA, entering its 49th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
