Dakota Adamec, a senior from Tufts University, was named the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for lacrosse as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Adamec is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 43rd year.
“I am honored and humbled to be nominated for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year award for the sport of lacrosse”, said Adamec. “What I am most proud of this year is the continued strides our team has taken in my four years at Tufts. Missing out on NCAAs our first two years to ending as one of the top four teams in the nation required a tremendous leadership effort from our entire team and I am proud to have contributed to a winning culture on and off the field.”
Adamec, hailing from Katonah, N.Y., is a two-time New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year and led her team to the NCAA semifinals this season after earning a top seed in the tournament. This was also the second year in a row she was named to the NESCAC All-Conference First-Team. Most recently she was named an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region honoree, making her eligible for All-America honors which she earned last year. During the season she earned IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The attack player ranked third on the team in goals with 43 and added seven assists for 50 points on the year. Her eight goals against Wesleyan this season tied a school record for goals in a game. For her career, she finished with 141 goals, 36 assists and posted 177 points.
“Dakota is a special player, perhaps the most decorated student-athlete to come out of the Tufts Women’s Lacrosse program,” stated coach Courtney Shute. “Dakota is one of the hardest workers on our team and she puts in the time and sweat necessary to be great, she does not simply rely on her talent she strives to be the best version of herself every day. We are all incredibly happy for the acknowledgement Dakota has received on behalf of a great season and career and I could not be prouder of the young women she has become through this journey.”
All Honda Sports nominees from DIII and DII become a finalist for the prestigious 2019 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports on June 24, 2019, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Sports nominees are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 43 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.
