Finalists for the Class of 2024 Honda Sport Award for Women’s Soccer Announced

Stanford University’s Jasmine Aikey, Hannah Anderson from Texas Tech University, Onyi Echegini from Florida State University and Brigham Young University’s Brecken Mozingo are the four finalists for the Class of 2024 Honda Sport Award for Women’s Soccer as announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) today. 

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 48 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup, which will be presented during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.

The women’s soccer finalists by a panel of experts and coaches from the United Soccer Coaches. The Honda Sport award winner for soccer will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.  

Aikey, a sophomore hailing from Palo Alto, Calif., was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and the 2023 Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year after leading her team to the 2023 National Championship title game finishing runner-up. Entering the game undefeated, the midfielder ranked first in the Pac-12 in assists (12) and points (34) and scored in nine of 25 matches this season.

Anderson, a graduate student, was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and tabbed a 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist before earning 2023 United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America honors. A defender from Plano, Texas, she led a backline that allowed just 11 total goals and a goals-against-average of 0.47. Overall, she started 96 consecutive games which is the most in program history.

Echegini, a senior hailing from London, England, was most recently named a 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy finalist and led her team to its fourth NCAA Championship title and first undefeated season scoring three goals and adding two assists during tournament play. The forward was named the 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the ACC with 16 goals and tied for first with 37 points.

Mozingo was also named a 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy finalist and a 2023 United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American. The senior forward from Sandy, Utah, led her team to an undefeated record in its inaugural season in the Big 12 and was named All-Big 12 First Team and to the Big 12 All Tournament Team. She ranked third nationally in assists (15) and fifth in points (43) on the season.

The CWSA, entering its 48th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
